This stir fry cabbage is an African favorite that is eaten almost everyday in most households.

It's quick and easy to cook and it can be flavored with so many different spices and herbs. The following recipe is delicious with rice, bread and most steamed grains.

To make this recipe, you will need the following:


2 tbsp olive oil
1 large yellow onion, diced
2 cloves fresh garlic cloves, minced
1 tbsp grated ginger
1 tsp jalapeno pepper, diced (optional)
1 cup each red and white cabbage, chopped finely
1 cup grated carrots
salt and pepper to taste


  1. Heat a large pan on medium heat.
  2. Add olive oil and onions and cook until soft before adding garlic, ginger, and jalapeno pepper. Cook for 1 extra minute.
  3. Add cabbage, carrot and fresh black pepper on top and let steam for 1 minute and then mix well. Cook until desired tenderness is achieved. (About 5-7 minutes)
  4. Remove from heat and set aside until ready to serve.
